ExxonMobil National School Basketball Festival: Covent Garden clinch East Bank Regional Championship
Covent Garden Secondary, champions of the East Bank “Diamond” Regional Championship
Covent Garden Secondary claimed the coveted title in the ExxonMobil National School Basketball Festival of East Bank “Diamond” Regional Champions, after defeating Diamond Secondary with one point being the decider on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, Jonathon Giddings
Jonathon Giddings performed exceptionally, netting 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals to secure the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Trophy. Giddings was ably assisted in the game-winning effort by his teammate, Jonathon Persaud, who swished the ball into the net for 4 points and 3 rebounds.
Diamond’s Benkai King picked up 13 points and 6 rebounds, but it was not enough to carry his team and school over the finish line.
The Regional Conference in the tournament will continue today on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD), where the East Coast female and male finals will take place. Action is set to bounce off at President’s College from 15:30h.
The tournament is sponsored by ExxonMobil with support from Edward Beharry, G-Boats GY and the National Sports Commission (NSC).
