Fans and parents and schoolmates will have to wait an extra week to witness action in the ExxonMobil/Petra Under-14 schools football league, after the first games were postponed due to inclement weather.
According to a release from Petra Co-Director, Troy Mendonca, the organisers were unable to prepare the venue – the Education Ministry Ground – for play due to the consistent rainy weather. And as such, they have made the decision to delay the competition for one week, so as to have the playing fields in the best condition possible.
The highly anticipated competition has received the stamp of approval from large companies such as ExxonMobil and Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under their Pepsi brand and is expected to bridge the gap between existing competitions such as the pee-wee and Under-18 leagues.
When the league begins on June 9, the males will kick-off their competition straight away while the females will have to wait a little while to be a part of the action. During the first two weeks of the boy’s competition, the girls will benefit from training sessions that will be supervised by the technical staff of the Guyana Football Federation.
