The ExxonMobil boys’ and girls’ Under-14 Football competition begins this morning with the ceremonial march-past and action in the boys’ division. Things get underway from 10:00hrs at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.
Marian Academy will play Uitvlugt Secondary; Dolphin Secondary come up against Ann’s Grove Secondary; Bishops’ High playing Annandale Secondary; Carmel Secondary come up against Vergenogen Secondary, and New Campbellville Secondary tangles with Brickdam Secondary.
In the second half of the opening day, Tucville Secondary will play Queenstown Secondary; Chase’s will play St John’s College; North Ruimveldt Secondary will match skills with School of the Nations; East Ruimveldt Secondary will come against St George’s Secondary, and Kingstown Secondary will do battle with South Ruimveldt Secondary in the final opening round match.
Troy Mendonca, co-director of the organisers, Petra, noted that with the smaller number of female teams (which adds to eight as compared to the 24 male teams), their competition would not start until the third week of action.
In this space, he posited, the Guyana Football Federation will conduct some training for the females, and courses for their coaches, in an attempt to fine tune everyone’s skills.
