Fairfield, Ogle, Lusignan, Enmore record victories …rain costs Buxton victory

The 2019 edition of the East Coast Cricket Committee-SPR Enterprise 40-over cricket tournament commenced on Sunday last at several venues across the East Coast.
At Fairfield, Fairfield Sports Club defeated Mahaica Cavaliers by six wickets. Batting first, Mahaica Cavaliers SC were able to post a modest total of 101 all out in 27.2 overs. Top-scoring was P Chowtie with 34 while T Charles and R Chatura took four wickets and three wickets respectively. In reply, Fairfield SC responded with 105 for 4 in 13.4 overs as they made light work of the Cavaliers bowlers.
At Ogle, Ogle Blasters defeated Paradise All-Stars by eight wickets. Owing to the excellent bowling of Ogle, Paradise could only muster 61-7 in 17 overs as Andre Gomes wrecked the Paradise batting line-up with figures of 4 for 15 runs from 5 overs. Ogle Blasters then put their foot on the pedal as they got to 63 for 2 from eight overs, with Andrew Samaroo top-scoring with 21.
Lusignan B defeated hosts Strathavon SC by two wickets in a rain-affected match-up. Strathavon scored 193 all out in 37 overs, as Ganesh Sugrim blasted 61 and S Budhu supported with 35. Owing to the inclement weather, the total was then revised as Lusignan needed 107 from 22 overs. Lusignan then got over the line in 21.3 overs for the loss of eight wickets with M Persaud scoring 37 while G Hemraj took 2 for 15.
Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club Enforcers pummelled Mahaica SC by six wickets in a 25- over affair. Mahaica SC posted 81 all out in 21 overs. Chris Surat bagged 4 for 18 for ECCCC Enforcers, who then chased the total down in 6.4 overs ending with 84 for the loss of no wicket. Bheemraj Ramkelawan and Rudolph Singh scored 43 not out and 20 respectively.
At Buxton, Buxton SC bowled out Helena SC for 95 in 19.3 overs with Owen Andrews taking 6 for 4 runs. In response, Buxton SC were 40 without loss in 6.4 overs before the rain played an unfair hand, halting the match and denying them victory.
The action will continue tomorrow with Lusignan SC A duking it out with Lusignan East Strikers at Lusignan, while Enmore will host Beehive SC. Cane Grove New Generation SC will be playing on home turf as they attempt to overthrow Buxton SC; also Better Hope A will face Golden Achievers SC at Better Hope. The other fixtures will see Ogle Blasters taking on Strathavon SC at Ogle while Strathavon B will do battle with Better Hope Sixers at Strathavon and Fairfield SC will play against LBI SC at Fairfield.
All matches will commence at 11:00h sharp.
