Employees of the Finance Ministry on Wednesday rushed to safety after the fire alarm in the building was triggered.
This publication understands that the Guyana Fire Service was contacted moments after the alarm was triggered.
When Guyana Times, visited the scene, employees were observed standing outside the building as firefighters assessed the situation inside.
During a brief telephone interview, Fire Chief Marlon Gentle confirmed that an alarm was indeed triggered at the location but there was no visible fire or possible threats. He explained that the alarm may have been triggered due to an electrical effect or weather change since such incidents are constant.
“I haven’t had a good report as to what may have caused it but there was no fire. These things happen from time to time, it’s nothing unusual that it happens,” Gentle noted.
But even though the main cause of the triggered alarm is still unknown, the Fire Chief disclosed that technicians have been called in to conduct an electrical inspection.
