Family pleads for assistance to offset funeral expenses
9-year-old crushed by garbage truck
One day after their 9-year-old son, Enam Holder, was crushed by a garbage truck at C Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, his parents, Nigel and Roxanne Holder, are in a state of shock and disbelief. This incident has brought back the grave memory of losing one of their children in a similar manner.
It was about 12 years ago that their 2-year-old son, Isaiah Holder, was killed by a speeding driver. This, a relative told Guyana Times, had left the family is disarray.
Speaking briefly with Roxanne Holder, mother of the dead child, she explained that she sent her son and his sister to the shop to purchase some items but soon after she was greeted with the devasting news.
Before fainting, she related that after she heard about the accident, she rushed to the scene only to see the body of her dead child covered in a blood-stained sheet.
“All is see is he body under the sheet… he head crushed… blood everywhere…,” the woman related after which she stopped talking.
Soon after, a woman who identified herself as the woman’s eldest daughter picked up the telephone and told Guyana Times that ever since the accident on Sunday, her mother has been constantly fainting.
Katima Holder explained that her brother was on his way home when he was struck from behind by the garbage truck. As a result, he and the bicycle fell onto the roadway and was crushed by the rear wheel of the vehicle.
“It was nothing like what they reported in the media, he did not collide with the truck, is the truck knock he from behind,” the sister reiterated.
She noted that after they heard about the incident, they rushed over to the scene. “He head damaged… he brain all come out… you can’t recognise he because of the injuries.”
The aggrieved sister further stated that after the accident, the driver went to the Turkeyen Police Station where he made a report. Initially, relatives thought that he was trying to escape but instead he made the report and was immediately taken into custody.
The truck, the sister related, however, was not impounded and upon inquiring, she was told that the truck was handed over to the company, C&S Trucking Service. Nevertheless, a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver but there were no traces of alcohol in his system.
Meanwhile, the sister explained that the family needs as much assistance as possible in the form of finances and counselling. “One of my sisters witness the accident… she is traumatised and need the relevant counselling… my mother is going through what happened 12 years ago… and at this point we need money to offset expenses,” she cried.
She added too, that her father is speechless while adding that he has not eaten or slept since the horrific accident. Enam Holder leaves to mourn his parents, three sisters and one brother.
