Fans trilled at Champions League final

ANSA McAL under its Heineken brand allowed hundreds of Guyanese who packed the 7O4 Complex on Lamaha and Albert Streets, to have one of the most trilling and memorable Champions League, as they watched the final of the UEFA Champions League match between arch rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

The final nail in the coffin for the Atletico Madrid was in the most auspicious manner, the penalty kick that Real Madrid forward, Christiano Ronaldo took that sealed the win for the Spanish team.

The goal brought joyous celebrations to the local fans who flocked the complex for the gala event but many others seemed to be left in a solemn as state as they clearly were in support of the losing team.

When Guyana Times Sport spoke to several of the energetic fans who were watching the match, they voiced their views on the topsy turvy nature of the match.

The match which ended 1-1 after extra time, saw Real Madrid winning 5-3 on penalties to give the La Liga team their twelfth title in League’s history.

One Real Madrid “die-hard” fan who gave his name as Paul said “I love Real Madrid until death, I always expected to win, and it was most fitting that the class of Christiano Ronaldo scored the goal.”

Another fan by the name of John Rajkumar explained that “I’m only supporting Atleico Madrid because my favourite team Barcelona got knocked out and as anybody would know, once you are a Barca fan, you are never a Real Madrid supporter; they [ Atletico Madrid] played well, I’m a bit sad they lost but it was really exciting.”

Heineken Brand Manager Robert Hiscock spoke to this publication and explained that the turnout was enormous and that the atmosphere was phenomenal.”

The event which was views by several sports personalities from across Guyana saw several patrons also receiving tokens from the company for their attendance while a similar undertaking is expected for future tournaments.
