Prime Minister (PM) Brigadier (Ret’d), Mark Phillips, toured the Demerara Dairies Incorporated (DDI) facility, which is Guyana’s first modern, large-scale dairy farm currently under construction at Moblissa along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway. During the visit on Friday, the PM received a comprehensive overview of ongoing developments at the US$20 million, 200-acre technologically advanced facility, which is projected to begin fresh milk production by mid-2026. At the site, Phillips commended the scale and vision of the initiative, stating that it represents a significant advancement in transforming Guyana’s agricultural and agri-industrial sectors. “In addition to producing milk and other dairy products, this facility will serve as a destination for dairy industry practitioners and as a learning centre for educational institutions, ranging from the University of Guyana (UG) to schools across Region 10 and the wider country.

Here, students will observe modern dairy farming practices introduced from other regions.” A released from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) stated that he also commended the project team for their innovative efforts in converting the Moblissa savannah into high-quality pasture suitable for advanced dairy operations. He emphasised that the initiative extends beyond technological and agricultural advancements, contributing to employment, skills development and broader economic participation. It was noted that as the project enters its final stages, approximately 100 Guyanese workers, many from Linden, will be employed, with support operations connected to Demerara Distillers Limited’s (DDL) production facility at Diamond.
Phillips emphasised that the initiative demonstrates the positive outcomes achievable through strong partnerships among the private sector, Government and local communities. “This project will benefit Moblissa, Region 10 and Guyana as a whole by advancing food security, providing training and education and creating employment opportunities,” adding, “The knowledge transfer from international experts collaborating with young Guyanese technicians, veterinarians and engineers will create mutually beneficial outcomes.” He further commended the leadership of DDL and its project partners for their commitment to high standards in design, worker facilities and site management, describing the project as exemplary of the modernisation occurring across Guyana’s productive sectors. Executive Chairman of DDL, Komal Samaroo was also present, along with other representatives of DDL.
