Farmer charged for killing man with arrow and bow

A farmer who shot and killed another man with an arrow and bow at Karaudanawa Village, South Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), was on Tuesday arraigned for the murder.

Fifty-year-old Munroe Lawrence of Karaudanawa Village, South Rupununi, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The police stated that between August 5 and 6, 2019, at Karaudanawa Village, South Rupununi, he murdered Pius Ernest.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield in presenting the facts of the case stated that the accused got upset after he found out that his wife and Ernest were involved in a relationship.
The court was told that Lawrence followed his wife to Ernest’s home and hid in a clump of bushes with an arrow and bow. Lawrence, on seeing Ernest, fired the arrow from his bow which struck the victim to the chest.
The injured man fell to the ground but was picked up and taken to the Lethem Hospital where he was treated and admitted. He later succumbed and the matter was reported.
The suspect was arrested and during interrogation, the suspect admitted to the crime which he was accused of.
Lawrence was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court for August 26, 2019.
