Farmer chopped by teenager was aggressor – Commander

The 55-year-old farmer of Naamless, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), who was allegedly chopped by a 19-year-old was said to be the aggressor during the deadly altercation.
Police Commander of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Assistant Police Commissioner Simon McBean during an interview with Guyana Times said that an investigation revealed that the teenager faced may attacks from Wilfred Kippins but never took heed to them until the altercation.
The Assistant Police Commissioner noted that the teenager is in custody as ranks await advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine the way forward.
Based on reports, an argument ensued between the duo at about 19:30h on April 13. As the argument escalated, the now dead man’s wife intervened and managed to get her husband into the house after which the suspect left.
However, Kippins later left his home and went in pursuit of the teen.
According to the man’s widow, she was told that her husband attacked the 19-year-old and in retaliation, the teen dealt him several chops about his body.
The man was left lying on the roadway in a pool of blood. He was later picked up and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, but relatives later took him to a private hospital where he died on Tuesday morning at about 06:45h.
A report was made at the Parika Police Station and the teen was arrested.
