A farmer from Paramakatoi Village, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for unlawful wounding.
According to the charge, 31-year-old Lawrence Gomes on January 29, 1017, in the village of Paramakatoi, North Pakaraimas, unlawfully and maliciously wounded the Virtual Complainant (VC), Rowlinson Robin.
On the day in question, the two men were reportedly involved in an argument as a result of a land dispute. The defendant then allegedly chopped the VC to the side of his face. Robin was then rushed to the village’s medical facility.
Gomes was subsequently arrested by Police officials and charged with the said offence. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to the Camp Street penitentiary by the presiding Magistrate, Leroy Daly.
Gomes will reappear at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on February 13, 2017 when the matter will proceed to trial.
