Farmer succumbs days after being lashed to the head by drinking buddy

Two days after being hit to the head with an axe handle by his drinking buddy, a farmer succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention in Brazil.
The dead man has been identified as 35-year-old Reginald Thompson, of Katunarib Village, Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
According to information received, the victim and the suspect were friends and on the day in question, they were consuming alcohol at the suspect’s home in the same village when a heated argument ensued.
During the confrontation, the suspect armed himself with an axe handle and dealt Thompson a lash to his head. The injured man was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Lethem Public Hospital.
He was treated at the local facility before being immediately transferred to the Boa Vista Hospital across the border in neighbouring Brazil. Thompson was admitted a patient there until Friday when he succumbed around 16:30h.
Meanwhile, the 56-year-old suspect has not been arrested yet. Nevertheless investigations are ongoing.
