Farmer’s finger severed during cutlass attack

A 31-year-old farmer is now hospitalised with a severed finger after he was attacked by a cutlass-wielding man at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.
Surendranauth Sookdeo also known as “Robindranauth Sookdeo” and “Tambraine” of Lot 4 Grant 1771 Crabwood Creek, is hospitalised in a serious but stable condition. His attacker has been identified as a 22-year-old labourer, Romel Williams, also of Crabwood Creek.
Based on Police reports, the incident took place at about 21:37h on Monday at Backland Crabwood Creek. It was reported that Sookdeo had gone to the residence of a businessman at Backland, where a group of people were sitting.
He was standing there when the suspect suddenly emerged and dealt Sookdeo several chops about his body. The injured man was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was treated for his severed finger on his left hand and other injuries to his back.

The man was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he is now admitted.
Meanwhile, investigators, while canvassing the scene of the crime for anything of evidential value, recovered Sookdeo’s severed finger, which was picked up and placed in an evidence bag.
Additionally, CCTV cameras were seen and the footage reviewed. Checks were also made for the suspect but he was nowhere to be found. The Police said enquiries are in progress.
