FB commentator charged for causing Charles Ramson Jr emotional distress

Social media talk show host Gavin Matthews who is accused of calling Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr a terrorist and murderer was on Thursday charged for causing him emotional distress.
He was released on $100,000 bail following his appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Matthews, 43, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on March 25, 2021 at Georgetown, he used a computer system to cause damage to the reputation of Minister Ramson. The charge was instituted under Guyana’s Cyber Crime Act. The defendant who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Darren Wade will return to court on June 10, 2021.
According to reports, on the day in question, Matthews was live on Facebook when he made the remarks about the Minister. In the video, Matthews hurled a series of allegations against the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Government, while criticising Ramson Jr’s affiliation with the ruling party.

Matthews was arrested back in April by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters. He was subsequently released on $100,000 station bail pending investigations.
