Female Berbice contractor provides Easter treat to robotics class

A female Berbice contractor last week provided robotic students at the Smithfield Training Centre with an Easter treat in an effort to give them a head start on the Easter holidays.

Some sixty-five students who attend Smithfield Training Centre at the Youth Friendly Space in New Amsterdam were on Wednesday last the beneficiaries of kites, Easter Bonny ear headbands, sunglasses and an Easter basket filled with candies and snacks.
The goodies came from SAWA Investment Inc and formed a part of an annual treat to communities in Berbice from the company.
Chief Executive Officer of the company Samantha Reid said it is a part of their cooperate responsibility.
Reid who is also the President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce pointed out that Easter is one of the holidays that focuses on children and over the past four years she has been doing her part to bring happiness to children.
The Youth Friendly Space caters for children in the Smithfield-Mount Sinai area.
Currently, there are 65 students with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The concept of the STEM programme is to prepare primary and secondary students for graduate study and careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In addition to subject-specific learning, STEM aims to foster inquiring minds, logical reasoning and collaboration skills.
At the Smithfield Training Centre robotics is being though by eight teachers who have been trained by the Culture Youth and Sport Ministry. (G4)
