Neatly-dressed military men and women showed their allegiance to Guyana as they marched through the heavy showers to hoist the Golden Arrowhead.
In her remarks, Minister within the Public Infrastructure Ministry, Annette Ferguson reflected on the many struggles fought by the late LFS Burnham and Cheddi B Jagan for a free and independent Guyana.
She called on the residents to live in harmony and embrace each other for a united Guyana.
At the event, she announced that 10,000 LED Lamps would be imported from Japan to replace the existing street lights in Guyana, primarily on the Essequibo Coast.
She also promised that Government would work to ensure that there would be an end to power outages in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) with the installation of a $6.5 million generator.
This is expected to be installed before the end of 2018 at the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) branch at Anna Regina.
Hundreds of residents braved the weather to witness the hoisting of the national flag. They were also treated to a packed cultural programme.
