2018 Rainforest Waters Senior National Squash Championships…
Taylor Fernandes and Ashley Khalil were among the top performers on Thursday night when the Women’s round of the 2018 Rainforest Waters Senior National Squash Championships commenced.
Action at the Georgetown Club courts saw first round matches in the Women’s Open, with former National Champions Mary Fung-A-Fat, Ashley Khalil and Taylor Fernandes all having straight sets’ wins.
Fung-A-Fat dropped just four points in her match against Tian Edwards, winning 11-1, 11-1, 11-2; while Khalil was just as impressive against junior player Kirsten Gomes, winning 11-1, 11-3, 11-1.
Fernandes, on the other hand, had to work slightly harder to defeat junior player Madison Fernandes 11-7, 11-3, 11- 2.
In the veteran Over-35 category, both Garfield Wiltshire and Brian Yong had comfortable victories. Play continued last night with matches in the Veteran Over-35 category, the Men’s plate, and the last women’s quarter-final match, played between Sarah Lewis and Abosaide Cadogan.
Play in the Men’s Open quarter finals will conclude the evening’s matches, when defending champion Alex Arjoon plays Damian Da Silva; Jason Ray-Khalil is pitted against top junior player Shomari Wiltshire; former national champion Nyron Joseph comes up against former national champion Regan Pollard; and former national champion Richard Chin plays former national player and current national men’s hockey coach, Robert Fernandes, in the final match.
All semi-finals will be played on Saturday evening starting from 5.30 pm, with the finals set to be held on Sunday, commencing at 11.00 am. All matches are scheduled for the Georgetown Club courts.
