At least 10 families of the Amerindian settlement of Bethany, Supenaam Creek, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), were in smiles after they were given the keys to their brand-new home, compliments of Food for The Poor (FFTP).
The houses comprise two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a restroom, and also a rain harvest where families can safely store water.
At a simple handing over ceremony on Friday, Senior Project Manager of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Andrea Benjamin related that the organisation continues to assist families who are in need.
She noted that the beneficiaries were living in dilapidated and in other persons homes.
She said that the main aim of the organisation is to make families happier and more comfortable in a better home that is well furnished. The houses that were handed over on Friday were equipped with household items and a solar panel to generate electricity.
However, Benjamin explained that FFTP has built several homes for Amerindian families throughout the region to make families happier.
One of the beneficiaries, Zeeta Thompson, was elated to have her own home while expressing gratitude to FFTP Guyana Inc.
“I once lived in a shabby house that leaks every time it rains resulting in my bed being soaked most of the times. My house was always filthy no matter how I clean and wood ants feed on most of the wood. I am very thankful and excited for what FFTP had done for me,” Zeeta Thompson explained.
Also expressing gratitude to the NGO was Toshao of the community, Sonia Latchmam. She related that she was happy for the ten families that received their homes.
Other beneficiaries echoed similar sentiments, praising FFTP Guyana Inc for their timely intervention.
Also at the handing over ceremony were Senior Field Officers Colin Reynolds and Quincy Benjamin.
