FFTP makes donation to First Lady’s Menstrual Hygiene Initiative
Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc has donated 50,000 individual sanitary napkins to the First Lady’s Menstrual Hygiene Initiative.
This great initiative, which was launched in January, positively impacts the lives of girls and women since it is a meaningful step in the eradication of period poverty.
Chief Executive Officer of FFTP, Kent Vincent, has emphasised that FFTP is always at the forefront wherever there is a need for humanitarian assistance, and wherever there is a need to bring assistance to the poor and needy.
It is with this in mind that a decision was taken to support any initiative that is geared to help the underprivilege and that would bring needed assistance to the vulnerable in society.
“We are cognisant of, and applaud, the First Lady’s Menstrual Hygiene Initiative, which brings much assistance to young girls in schools all across the country. Education, as we are aware, is key to bringing the poor out of poverty, and any programme or initiative that will help to keep our children in school is to be commended.
“It is therefore our great pleasure to announce that FFTP (Guyana) Inc. will be donating 15 pallets of sanitary napkins (which is about 50,000 individual napkins) to the First Lady’s Menstrual Hygiene Initiative. We are sure that this will greatly assist you with your most commendable enterprise,” CEO Vincent added.
First Lady Arya Ali expressed gratitude to FFTP (Guyana) Inc for the generous donation, explaining that it would definitely take her initiative very far.
She emphasised the impact the donation would have, since many girls do not go to school because they cannot afford sanitary products.
She highlighted that this is a huge gender-based issue, and there is need to revolutionise feminine hygiene and end the taboo and stigma.
