Beacons, Panthers in all-out clash, Northern Rangers aim to take out Buxton Stars
Round 2 action of the fourth edition of the Limacol Football Tournament is expected to produce a pyrotechnic display of scintillating football this evening at the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue.
A double-header is on the cards, wherein Beacons will first face off against GT Panthers before Northern Rangers take on Buxton Stars in the final game.
A ferocious battle is anticipated at 19:00hrs when Beacons FC and GT Panthers meet, as each team would be hoping to bag its first points of the tournament. Neither side has had the best of starts, as the GT Panthers were whipped 5-2 by Riddim Squad in their opening game, while Beacons could manage only a 1-1 tie with Pouderoyen FC in their first game. As such, a no-holds-barred fight for full points is anticipated in this game.
After what would expectedly be an epic encounter, tonight’s second fixture would see Buxton Stars confronting Northern Rangers FC at 21:00hrs.
Buxton Stars have thus far shown vast potential, similar to the Elite League team Buxton United coming out of the same village. This younger, brisker team won its first encounter of this year’s tournament, and will be aiming to make it two in a row in tonight’s clash.
Northern Rangers will conversely be coming to exact revenge after being on the receiving end of a blitzkrieg from the younger Fruta Conquerors’ Under-20 team last week. The Rangers also need tonight’s points to make it to the knockout rounds.
In the extant circumstances, tonight’s activities are expected to produce a night of exhilarating football action at the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue.
This tournament is sponsored by the New GPC under its Limacol brand, and is supported by W.J. Enterprise, Guyana’s sole distributors of Croxley Paper.
This year’s tournament winner will walk away with $400,000, while second-placed team settles for $200,000. Third- and fourth-placed teams would pocket $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
