Fight over missing cellphone lands fish vendor in court

Fish vendor Vishal Ally, who allegedly stabbed a man whom he had accused of stealing his mobile phone, has been placed on $20,000 bail after appearing before Georgetown Magistrate Faith McGusty on a wounding charge on Friday.
The 25-year-old father of three, of Rahaman’s Park, Greater Georgetown, has pleaded not guilty to a charge which alleges that on October 29, 2021, at Rahaman’s Park, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Trevor Williams. Ally will make his next court appearance in January 2022.

On bail: Vishal Ally

Facts presented in court revealed that, on the day in question, Ally was using his cellphone prior to him leaving the device downstairs and going to the upper flat for a while. When he returned downstairs, he noticed that his phone was missing. As such, Ally went over to Williams, who along with some other men were under a house, and asked Williams about his missing phone.
Williams became annoyed after Ally spoke to him in a loud tone while accusing him of stealing the phone. The two men had a heated verbal altercation which led to a fight, during which Ally is accused of stabbing Williams in the back. The matter was reported to the Police.
The Police prosecutor said that, under caution, Ally denied stabbing Williams, who was hospitalised for four days. Williams was not present at Friday’s court hearing.
