Final squad for Road to Mecca VI announced

The Road to Mecca VI will be held within the next few months, as there are currently a number of ongoing basketball camps that would not permit the tournament to be held on its given date. As such, the UG Trojans, after months of arduous training, have selected their final 12 to participate in the tournament.

Trojans will be hoping to lift the Road to Mecca VI Trophy

In an interview with Guyana Times Sport, coach of the UG Trojans, Warren Wilson, when asked of his expectation of the team, said, “To be honest, my expectation of the team is for them to go out and do their best. We have been preparing as much as we possibly can, and we are also hoping that, before the competition starts, we can get in two or three more training sessions.
“In terms of the method of selecting the team, we used a performance rating system that has worked perfectly.
“There have been persons, quote/unquote stars, who feel they know the game; but with the addition of this system, it has shown that it takes more than talking basketball to be a star. It takes lots of hard work, and I’m really looking forward to see how much more we can garner from this system as we head in to the competition.”
The Trojans coach also noted that with the final 12 selected, it is his goal to ensure that the team knows the offensive and defensive sets. He also relayed that he wants the fitness of the team fined-tuned before the competition commences.
Lifting the trophy, he said, would mean a lot to the team, as it would be a good boost to the morale of its members, since they were unable to participate in the University Games in Colombia. He noted that winning the championship trophy would not be easy, but he promised that the Trojans would not go down without a fight.
The 12-man squad consists of: Selvaughn Moseley(C), Dwight McKinnon, Darroll Williams, Kwesi Roberts, Damani Thomas, Kelmar Carmichael, Jude Corlette, Jonathan Mangra, Jonathan Browne, Jahleel Young, Cubator Stephen and Rudolph Daly.
