Home News Fire destroys Church’s Chicken at Rosignol
The quick response by the fire department attached to Guyana Sugar Corporation’s Blairmont Estate prevented the Church’s Chicken outlet at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) from suffering total devastation.
Smoke was seen emanating from the extractor about 17:30h on Tuesday. According to an eyewitness, staff ran out of the building as thick black smoke billowed from the extractor.
Soon after, there was a small fire just beyond the counter.
A staffer who works at the fast food outlet related that the fire was caused by a stove, but provided no further details. He added that the staff was safe.
Reports are that a unit from the Blairmont Estate arrived about 25 minutes after the initial alarm was raised and quickly got into action, taking water from the Berbice River to douse the fire.
Fifteen minutes later, a tender from the Guyana Fire Service arrived on the scene to assist in putting out the blaze.
During the operation, one of the firefighters was injured and had to be taken to be medically examined.
Meanwhile, the supervisor of the outlet informed customers that the facility would not be opened today, since there was a lot of water damage.
