Fire destroys home of Sophia security officer

A security officer, her husband and children are now homeless after a fire of unknown origin completely destroyed their 13th Field, Section A, Sophia, Greater Georgetown home on Wednesday.

According to information received, the owner of the house, Iyana Thompson, returned home from work around 10:00h on the day in question and went to a shop nearby to purchase groceries.
After collecting the items, she saw her two children ran out of the house screaming for “fire! Fire!” Without hesitation, the Fire Service was summoned. The family was unable to salvage any household items from the burning building.
By the time, the fire tenders arrived at the scene, the building was completely gutted.
