An early-morning fire of unknown origin destroyed a Track ‘K’ Hyde Park, Timehri supermarket on Wednesday.
Reports are that the fire started about 04:28h.
According to the Guyana Fire Service, two water tenders, along with 10 firefighters, from the Timehri Fire Station were dispatched to the scene.
The two-storey wooden and concrete building, owned by Rabindra Kalnarine, was completely destroyed.
A two-storey house at the same address, which is also owned by Kalnarine and occupied by his family, was also affected by the fire.
“Radiated heat from the building of origin caused a quantity of polyvinyl chloride ceiling, a wooden panel door, three sash windows, and some paint work all on the first floor to be destroyed,” the Fire Service said on Wednesday.
Fire prevention officials are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
