Fire of unknown origin destroys Caricom Auto Spares

A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed a building housing Caricom Auto Spares on the East Coast of Demerara shortly after 14:00h this afternoon.

Owner Imran Inshan said two staffers were in the building at the time when someone came to enquire about a specific vehicle part. As the person was being tended to, the threw a “pink paper” into the office and that was followed by a loud explosion.

The man said he has been in operation for about four years and estimates his losses to be in the vicinity of $80 million.

They are currently reviewing the CCTV footage in an effort to identify the customer. Investigations are ongoing.
