A fire which reportedly started from a lit candle completely destroyed a home in Company Path, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Sunday evening. The one flat wooden building was occupied by 17-year-old Tomar Jarvis.
Based on reports received, the teenager reportedly lit a candle in the Lot 61 Company Path home and went to a nearby shop to purchase dinner. The building did not have electricity.
However, he returned at about 21:00h and observed the building engulfed in flames. He immediately raised an alarm. The fire service was contacted but by the time the tenders arrived, the house was already gutted. No one was injured in the fire.
