A firearm and ammunition were discovered in a motor vehicle parked near the Stabroek Market, Georgetown area, on Saturday night, leading to two men being taken into custody as investigators search for a third suspect. The discovery was made on Saturday, at approximately 19:40h, after a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Anti-Crime Patrol, acting on information received, went to Croal Street, Georgetown, in the vicinity of the Route 40 Minibus Park.
On arrival, ranks observed a silver-grey motorcar parked along the roadway with several males standing nearby. Initial enquiries were made, however no one at the scene immediately claimed ownership of the vehicle or responsibility as the driver.
A search of the vehicle was subsequently conducted, during which ranks uncovered one Taurus .32 pistol along with eight live matching rounds in the magazine. The firearm and ammunition were found concealed in a compartment beneath the radio deck. Further investigations later identified a 26-year-old bus conductor, of Sideline Dam, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD) as the driver of the vehicle. When questioned if he was the holder of a firearm licence, the man reportedly replied in the negative. He was cautioned and taken into custody.

A short time later, a 32-year-old businessman of South Ruimveldt, identified as the owner of the vehicle, arrived at the scene and was also taken into custody as part of the investigation. Both men were escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, while the motor vehicle was seized and lodged. The firearm and ammunition were marked, tagged and handed over to the Ballistic Section for processing. Investigators have since indicated that efforts are ongoing to locate a third individual believed to be connected to the incident, as investigations continue.
