Firearm, ganja found during Police operations in Linden, Lethem

A firearm and a quantity of narcotics were discovered by Police on Friday at Linden, Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice) and at Tabatinga Village, Lethem, Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
The first discovery was made at about 12:15h on Friday in the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) compound in Linden.

It was reported that a Policewoman and her child were exiting the NIS compound when the child stumbled on the firearm, which was partially stuck in the earth. The woman raised an alarm, and the weapon was retrieved and handed over to the Police.
Meanwhile, at around 16:15h on the same day, at Tabatinga Village, Lethem, Rupununi, four males, aged 37, 19, 19, and 16, were arrested after a quantity of marijuana was found in their possession.
It was reported that while on mobile patrol in Tabatinga, a party of Policemen observed the four suspects standing in a yard acting in a suspicious manner.
The ranks conducted a search on the suspects’ persons, but nothing illegal was found.

The ganja that was found at Region Nine

A further search was conducted around the area, and a green plastic bag was unearthed among some hollow blocks. The bag was opened in the suspects’ presence, and it was found to contain ganja.
The suspects were told of the offence, cautioned, arrested, and escorted to the Lethem Police Station, where the narcotic was weighed in their presence and amounted to 110 grams.
The suspects were placed in custody as investigations into the discovery continues.
