First Lady visits Christmas Day babies, paediatric wards at Christmas

The Guyana Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Christmas Day welcomed First Lady Arya Ali, who was continuing the cherished annual tradition of visiting the hospital during the festive season to celebrate with patients and their families. On Christmas morning, she brought care packages and gifts for all Christmas babies, a gesture that brings comfort and happiness to new mothers delivering during the holidays. At the time of her visit, five babies were born at GPHC on Christmas Day. On average, the hospital records between 12 and 15 births on this day, making the occasion especially meaningful for families and staff alike. During her visit to the maternity wards, the First Lady met with mothers and their newborns, extending Christmas greetings and words of encouragement. She also visited the paediatric wards, where she interacted with young patients and shared festive cheer.

In brief remarks, GPHC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Robbie Rambarran, expressed gratitude for the First Lady’s continued support and reflected on the significance of the season. “On behalf of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and thank everyone for their service. We are in the sector of serving people and it is really a true honour and privilege to be serving, especially those that are vulnerable,” he said.

Addressing staff and families, the First Lady commended healthcare workers for their dedication: “Today is a day we celebrate renewed hope and the season of giving and sharing. I want to thank the nurses, doctors and the CEO and commend them for the important work they do every day. Merry Christmas, and thank you,” she stated. The GPHC extended sincere thanks to the First Lady for maintaining this heart-warming annual tradition, as well as to corporate partners and donors whose generous contributions helped bring comfort and joy to the hospital’s children and newborns.
