Arjune Mohabir, 22, of Kilcoy Squatting Area, Corentyne, was on Monday arraigned for the murder of John Alexander Yap, also 22, of Kilcoy Village, when he appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Courts.
Mohabir appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh, and was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on September 15, 2020, he murdered Yap.
He was, however, granted bail in the sum of $250,000 and was scheduled to make his next court appearance today at the Albion Magistrate Court.
It was reported that Yap and Mohabir were involved in an argument outside a Superbet outlet at Kilcoy Village which resulted in Mohabir stabbing Yap to the chest.
It was reported that it was Yap who had first attacked Mohabir with the knife, injuring him in the process. Mohabir reportedly pulled the knife away from Yap, and inflicted the fatal wound.
The dead man’s widow, Mineisha Chandralall, called “Anjali”, recalled that two weeks prior to the incident, the suspect and her husband had an argument over the suspect’s girlfriend.
The suspect alleged that Yap was too friendly with his girlfriend. Yap was a father of two young children.
