Fisherman beaten, robbed

A fisherman was beaten and robbed on Saturday as he was awaiting transportation to go to work.
Reports are that at about 05:00h the 42-year-old fisherman was at Unity Junction, East Coast Demerara, when he was approached by a red motor car with three occupants.
According to Police, the driver of the motor car enquired from the fisherman where he was going but as they spoke one of the occupants exited the vehicle with a steel bar in his hand and snatched the fisherman’s phone.
The man was robbed of a Samsung S10 cell phone, valued $200,000, after which the fisherman was dealt several lashes about his body and head.
The suspects immediately fled the scene. The fisherman was subsequently taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was admitted a patient.
One of the suspects known as “Thick Slice” was arrested while checks are being made for the other two. Investigations continue. (G9)
