Fisherman jailed 4 weeks for robbery

A 40-year-old fisherman, Jhanjadeen Naiken, called “Jaga”, appeared virtually at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court on Friday where he was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment.
The Number 36 Village Corentyne, Berbice man appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore.
Naiken, who was arrested on March 15, was charged with two counts of break and enter and larceny contrary to Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.
Meanwhile, 42-year-old Andrew Rampersaud of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, and 19-year-old Ravindra Weston of No 68 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, were jointly charged for simple larceny.
The duo appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to them by Magistrate Alex Moore.
They both pleaded not guilty.
Rampersaud was released on his own recognisance while Weston was remanded to jail.
The matter was adjourned until April 27. (G15)
