A fisherman is now in custody after he was found with an illegal firearm and matching ammunition during a Police operation.
According reports, at about 16:30h on Monday, Police ranks in Regional Division Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), acted on information received and went to West Vybz Sports Bar where contact was made with the 30-year-old fisherman of Anna Catherina, WCD.
“The ranks identified themselves as Policemen dressed in plain clothes and requested to carry out a search on his person. During the search, the Police found a black metal object suspected to be a firearm which was found in the right-side pants pocket of the fisherman,” the Police said in a statement.
The Police took possession of the firearm which contained five .38 matching rounds and the fisherman was arrested and taken to the Leonora Police Station. He remains in custody pending charges. (G9)
