Fisherman remanded after nabbed with ganja in crotch

A 25-year-old fisherman from Westbury on the Essequibo Coast was remanded to prison on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. Mark Pitman made his first appearance on Tuesday before Magistrate Ester Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
The fisherman was found with 60 grams of cannabis in his possession on October 30, 2017, during a Police patrol. Police observed that Pittman was standing on the western side of the Henrietta Public Road acting in a suspicious manner. Police subsequently approached him where they conducted a search on his person. A black plastic bag containing a quantity of stems, leaves and seeds were found in the man’s crotch. He was then taken to the Anna Regina Police Station where same was weighed and amounted to 60 grams. He was told of the offence and charged.
During his court appearance he pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him and was therefore remanded until December 12.
