Fisherman remanded for possession of illegal gun

Twenty-one-year-old Roahane Dellon Pellow, a fisherman of New Amsterdam, Berbice, was on Friday arraigned on a gun-related charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Pellow denied the charge when it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The charge stated that on February 4, 2020, at Reliance Public Road, East Canje, he had a 38 revolver in his possession when he was not the holder of a firearm license. He was unrepresented.
Police state that on the day in question, Police ranks received information and stopped motor car HC 1343 and the defendant was seen in the backseat.
He was asked to exit the car and upon doing so, he pulled out a firearm from the waist of his pants and placed it under the front seat of the car.
Pellew attempted to escape but was apprehended Police and was placed in custody where he admitted in a caution statement that someone gave him the firearm to bury.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.
Pellow will make his next court appearance on February 26, 2020, at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
