Fisherman remanded on multiple charges

A 20-year-old fisherman, of Lot 65 Middle Road, Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on three charges of break and entry.

Michael Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges which stated that on Thursday, July 14, 2016, while being in the company of others, he broke into the dwelling of Dante Narine and stole two gold chains valued $160,000, property of Chanice Narine.

The second charge stated that on the same day at the same dwelling, he stole two pairs of sneakers valued $40,000, property of Patrick Deweaver. The third charge stated that on the same day at the same dwelling, he stole US$200, equivalent to $40,000 local currency, belonging to Dante Narine.

The unrepresented defendant begged to be placed on bail, which was denied by the Magistrate after the prosecution indicated the seriousness of the crimes committed.

Scott will make his next court appearance on October 10, 2016.
