Four days after a Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), resident was badly beaten and later succumbed to his injuries, three men were slapped with the capital offence of murder on Wednesday and taken to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The three accused after their Court appearance on Wednesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts
Arnold Bruce Kennedy, 19, of Lot 847 Zeelugt, EBE, Tavish Mangra, 19, of Lot 858 Zeelugt, EBE, and Richie Mahase, 26, of Lot 68 Zeelugt, EBE, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The charge alleged that on July 18, 2019 at Zeelugt, EBE, they murdered Alvin, also called “Chuckoloo”.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield informed the Court that on July 18, Alvin and the three accused, who are known to each other, had a misunderstanding and got into a heated argument. The Prosecutor told the Court that the trio armed themselves with cutlasses and dealt Alvin several chops about his body. The injured man was picked up by public-spirited persons and rushed in an unconscious state to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Prosecutor Mansfield further indicted to the Court that the Police file is complete, but he is still awaiting the post-mortem results.
The three men were remanded to prison and their next Court appearance is slated for August 6 at the Leonora Magistrates’ Courts.
Alvin, also called “Chockoloo”, of Lot 820 G Zeelugt North, EBE, along with his brother, Devendra, had visited a relative’s home located in the same village and were reported to have been imbibing alcohol when a short while afterwards, residents in the area said that they heard a loud commotion and rushed to investigate. A resident said that he noticed that three men armed with instruments were beating Devendra, who is presently at the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) battling for his life.
The other brother, Alvin, was discovered in a motionless state a short distance away from his injured brother with multiple wounds about his body.
