Fishing expedition turns into tragedy

…teen missing, feared drowned

A 17-year-old boy is feared dead after he went missing on Sunday at the Windsor Forest seawall, West Coast Demerara (WCD), during a fishing trip with his two friends.
Missing is Surendra Singh called “Shambo” of Line Top Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara. He went missing at about 12:00h on Sunday.
According to reports, Singh and two other friends went to the seawall to catch fish and the trio went into the water to set several lines.
While heading back to shore, one of the three teens was in front while Singh and the other friend were behind.
As they were approaching the shore, Singh and the other teen reportedly fell into a channel and were submerging.
A man who was on the seawall at the time saw what was happening and took his fishing boat to rescue the boys. However, he managed to save one of the teens as Singh who could not swim, went down and did not resurface. An alarm was raised and a search party was launched to find the teen. Up to press time on Sunday Singh was not found.
Meanwhile, the two surviving teens are in Police custody assisting with investigations. (G9)
