Fitness Express boosts powerlifting

Long time supporter of Powerlifting in Guyana, Fitness Express has once again come in as the main sponsor for the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) Annual Claude Charles Memorial Intermediate and Masters Powerlifting Competition set for June 5 at the Critchlow Labour College, Woolford Avenue Georgetown.
The presentation was done yesterday at Fitness Express 47 John & Sheriff Streets, Campbellville by Jaime McDonald whose organization has always been a contributor to sports in Guyana.
The competition is expected to usher the return of One of Guyana’s most seasoned and decorated powerlifter, Big John Edwards who will be making his return after 3 years “out of training” in Masters 1 category.
Patrons can also look forward to the likes of Winston “Little Master” Stoby who will be competing in the Masters 2 category. Frank Tucker, President of the Guyana Weightlifting Association will also be competing in the Masters 3 category along with Farouk Abdool out of Hardcore Gym in Berbice.
Several youngsters are expected to vie for Supremacy in the Intermediate Category. Best Lifter for Novices Unequipped 2016, Carlos Peterson has already set the tone with his stellar performance in Berbice and is expected to better his previous total. Best Lifter for the Equipped category Arif Immamdeen of Elite Systems is expected to face fierce opposition from Sub Junior Powerhouse Romario Gonsalves of Life Gym.
Well known bodybuilder and Ms. Physique competitor, NadinaTaharally will be stepping on the platform to compete in the Masters 1 and Intermediate category. Much is expected of the 2 Unequipped females Lisa Oudit and Melissa Tucker whose Novice performances were quite impressive.
Weigh In and Equipment check starts at 7:00 Hrs and ends at 9:00 Hrs sharp.
Athletes are strongly advised to make this time bracket, failing to do so will make them ineligible to compete. Athletes are also urged to be in accordance with the rules and regulations of the GAPLF.
Lifting will commence at 10:30 hrs and admission is 0. Food and Drinks will be on sale and there will be novelty events for members of the audience to participate and win prizes. There will also be guest lifting by members of the team selected to represent Guyana at this year’s Caribbean Powerlifting Championships in St. Croix , USVI, Andrea Smith, Paul Adams, Rawndell Clementson, Karel Mars and Erwyn Smith.
