Fitzgerald sweeps National Darts championships

Sudesh Fitzgerald continues to be the prized asset of local darts as he won his tenth National title when the Guyana Darts Association (GDA) concluded the 2018 championships at Duke Lodge, Kingston on Sunday. The left-handed thrower, swept the individual awards and even played a handy role in his Better Hope Champs dominance of the team event.

His list of accolades in the three-day event ranged from, singles champion, men’s doubles, most 180’s, highest check out (170 points), most hundreds (76), shortest game (11 Darts) which essentially catapulted him to the most valuable player title. His compatriots in the team event were Anthony Bissondyal, Andrew Balchand, Hemwantie Amyan, while GT Falcons comprising of Dr Terence Joseph, Victorine Chandro, Shondel Hyles, Nicholas DeCares and Nicholas Young came second followed by Bank of Guyana’s Adrian Damon, Melissa Smartt, Fidel Hunter and Sean Fenty.
Fitzgerald’s teammate in the mixed doubles where they brought third was Hemwantie Amyan. However, Amyan was the female MVP and female singles champion; second was Rosetta Hiralall third place Melissa Smartt.
GDA President Sheik Yaseen disclosed the championships were well run and it gave the association a look at possible players to represent the country at this year’s Caribbean championships which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago during the month of July. Fitzgerald who is South American champion will also look to defend his Caribbean title at that event.
Yaseen also expressed immense appreciation to Duke Lodge who gave them occupancy for event free of cost and the support of Kalayan Construction Company, Millennium Manor Hotel, Rubis and Trophy Stall.
