– but fails to qualify for World Championships

National Darts Champion Sudesh Fitzgerald needed to beat Brazil’s Deigo Portela twice in one night to book a spot at the William Hill World Darts Championships set for December in London, England; but he fell short.
Playing at the Professional Darts Corporation’s (PDC) World Championship Qualifier for Central Caribbean and South America — in Palmas, Brazil — Fitzgerald won the tournament match against Portela, but lost the qualification match.

Fitzgerald won the Caribbean and South American Masters in 2008, which qualified him to represent Guyana at the PDC World Darts Championship held in London in 2009. In 2008, he reached the semi-finals at the World Darts Federation Americas Cup singles.

However, Victorine Chandroo and Sudesh Fitzgerald won the mixed-doubles championship by defeating Deigo Portela and Roberto Zylbergeld.

The other members of the Guyana team that participated in the tournament were Luiz Miguel Ramierz-Merlano, Lallchand Rambharose and Terrence Joseph. They are all expected to return home on Tuesday.
