Guyana Restaurant Week (GRW) is back, offering diners the chance to enjoy specially curated menus at discounted prices. This marks the 16th season of Restaurant Week, scheduled to run from June 23 to July 2.
The highly-anticipated event was officially launched at Bistro Café and Bar, located at Middle and Waterloo Streets in Georgetown, on Monday. The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), sponsors, and participating restaurants came together to kick off the festivities.

Omodelle George

During the launch, the President of THAG, Omodelle George urged the public to support Guyana’s gastronomic delights. She highlighted the resilience and strength of the hospitality industry, emphasising the exceptional service provided by professionals throughout the years.
According to George, GRW provides talented chefs, restaurant owners, and mixologists with a platform to showcase their creative passion and the true essence of Guyanese cuisine.
“It is an opportunity for talented chefs and restaurant owners and mixologists to showcase their creative passion and the true essence of Guyanese cuisine with foods that pay homage to our culture,” the THAG President said.

The event celebrates foods that pay homage to the country’s culture, using locally produced ingredients and promoting the unique culinary experience that Guyana has to offer. This year, there is a concerted effort to ensure that the menus offered by local restaurants truly represent the flavours of Guyana.
The aim is to create an authentic dining experience that showcases the diversity and richness of Guyanese cuisine.
Since its inception in 2014, GRW has relied on feedback from diners to enhance the participating restaurants’ offerings. The competition among the restaurants is fierce, with a focus on providing outstanding service and showcasing menu creativity.
George encouraged everyone to immerse themselves fully in the flavours and aromas of GRW. She urged them to explore new and hidden culinary gems, savour the fusion of cultures on their plates, and embark on a journey of culinary exploration.
Meanwhile, Director of the GTA, Kamrul Baksh, emphasised the importance of diversifying the menus based on feedback received from patrons. The aim is to continuously improve and provide a variety of options to meet the preferences of diners.
“What will be more welcoming is the diversity in the menus…we have been working with some specialists to design more itineraries and tours…we have a diverse and rich mix of food and we need to do a much better job at putting that out there,” he said.
