Fly Jamaica to face 2nd lawsuit

Fly Jamaica Airways is now gearing up to face another lawsuit, this time filed by a Canadian law firm to represent passengers who claimed they were injured during the crash landing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on November 9, 2018.
Guyana Times understands that the notice of the class action suit was filed on Friday by the law firm, which is seeking compensation for not only the passengers who were on board the flight OJ256, destined for Toronto, Canada but the families who were affected as a result of the crash landing at CJIA.
A total of four passengers, who are all Canadians, are plaintiffs in the suit, according to the law firm.
This lawsuit comes days after the one filed by Canadian firms Howie, Sacks &

Henry and Camp Fiorante Matthews Mogerman against the airline for injuries and losses incurred as a result of the crash.
That lawsuit was filed on November 23, 2018.
Of the 120 passengers on board the flight, along with eight crew members, at least six were injured during the crash landing.
An 86-year-old woman died one week after the incident as a result of brain swelling.
The flight left the CJIA for Toronto, about 02:10h on the fateful morning, but after reportedly encountering hydraulic issues, the pilot acted quickly and returned to the airport where the aircraft crash-landed about 02:53h.
Last week, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon announced that a report into the emergency landing of the Fly Jamaica aircraft was presented to Cabinet.
Minister Harmon revealed that Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson presented the report, complete with details of the incident, to Cabinet.
Meanwhile, four fire-fighters, who were implicated in stealing luggage and valuables from passengers following the emergency landing were slapped with simple larceny and related charges. The four denied the charges after they were read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
