… “The Showstopper” Peterson-Griffith grateful to family and sponsors for their support
Sanctioned by the International Powerlifting Federation in December 2021, Carlos “The Showstopper” Peterson-Griffith has served the time of his ban, and is now focused on preparing for what lies ahead for him, as he hopes to reset records, both locally and internationally.
Superlatively talented, and by far one of the strongest Guyanese powerlifters ever to grace the stage, The Showstopper disclosed that during the period he was debarred from competition, he had continued to press on with nary a thought of giving up the fight.
In an interview with Guyana Times Sport, he was asked how his training was coming along, and The Showstopper responded: “Training is on par thus far. I’m currently preparing for 2 events (local and international), which are the Raw/Classic Powerlifting Championship, (to be held) on the 28th of this month, and the Barbados Strong Fest, (to be held) on September 3-4. By God’s Grace, (these are) prep for Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship, which is set for November 28 to December 7 in Oakland, New Zealand.”
The talented athlete revealed that, for him, things have been “up and down”, but neither giving up nor the much less likely event of quitting would ever be an option for him.
In regard to what his focus would be this year, Peterson-Griffith noted that it is his goal to reset some records “as per norm”, both local and international. He also commented, “I would like to say, ‘Thank you, Fitness Express, MVP Sports, My Coach Mr Leon Wilson, My Sister/Manager Nicona Searles, my love Candace Lam, Space Gym, Flex Gym, and many, many more who support, encourage, and more so believe in me for all the hard work, commitment, consistency, dedication, time, sacrifice, and above all discipline, I’ve made thus far. Thank you all! And Thank You, God Almighty, for bringing me this far.”
