“Fojo’s” fiery trio invades with scorching female vocals
I have always believed in the saying, “The apples don’t fall far from the tree.” With that being said, here’s a story which may not come as a surprise to some readers, but will surely saturate your musical whims and fantasies.
Many may remember not so long ago, when Ian Corbon, better known as “Fojo” – the artiste who invaded the local music arena, blazing a trail much difficult to follow by the competition. But now following in his footsteps are his three darling angels, with liquid vocals more associated with fairies, water nymphs and goddesses.
“Fojo” still continues to work with numerous artistes around the globe since he is also a songwriter, producer and performer…. However, his main focus is on taking his “Fojo’s Angels” – 15-year-old Bryana (Trinidadian born); Canadian-born 15-year-old Kadejah; and nine-year-old Guyanese-born Aniyah – to the very top of the recognition ladder where they so rightfully deserve to be placed.
The scorching trio are poised to release their first single dubbed, “What’s up with Dad” which tells the story of an overprotective father having to deal with the featherlike notions and fantasies of a teenaged girl (Kadejah) who happens to be the lead vocalist of this very promising song group.
Kadejah is also set to record and release a few singles of her own very soon.
The voice of these talented upcoming young artistes are rare and quite stimulating and takes one back into a fantasy world which allows you to reminisce on the days when fairies, stunning goddesses and water nymphs roamed our world, filling the skies with serene liquid vocals, all honey tones, and tuned to ignite every ‘musical muscle’ within our bodies.
These feisty young ladies are urging the public to whip out protective eyewear because the future is about to explode in a blinding kaleidoscope of shooting stars, as this trio readies themselves to unleash a ‘musical thunderstorm’ like never before seen on our local shores.
The most amazing things is that these young divas at such a tender age already possess the onstage charisma, captivating allure, and showmanship associated with internationally acclaimed songstresses. Some are already raving that they bring to mind Guyanese Lisa Punch and even Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston in their younger days of stardom. Way to go ladies!
The ladies have indeed inherited their vocal supremacy from their father since several years ago, singer/songwriter Ian “Fojo” Corbin led the way when the nominations for the inaugural Accolades – the music awards of Guyana were announced.
The genre-hopping Corbin received nine nominations, including major nods for Best New Artist, Songwriter-of-the-Year and Producer-of-the-Year, in a field dominated by soca and reggae acts.
Bonny Alves of the Yoruba Singers, who had faced off against Corbin in the Producer category, finished second behind him with six nominations. Songstress Timeka Marshall and soca sirens Michelle “Big Red” King and Shellon “Shelly G” Garraway had each earned five nominations, with nods for the coveted Artist-of-Year award; while reggae powerhouses “First Born” and “Natural Black” also scored five a piece, including Album-of-the-Year.
Guyana stay poised, and expect lots of musical surprise from this super talented trio, who we may even soon dub “The Fojo Sisters’.
