Christopher Cummings, a food vendor of Tucville Housing Scheme, made his final appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday and was handed a three-year sentence for a ganja trafficking charge he faced in 2019.
The Tucville resident initially pleaded not guilty to the charge but Magistrate Dylon Bess, in summing up the matter, found sufficient evidence against the defendant to convict him.
The Police had stated that on January 11, 2019, at Merriman Mall, Georgetown, he had in his possession 109 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Facts had stated that on the day in question, ranks from the narcotics branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), acting on information, went to the defendant’s vending area and found the suspected narcotics in his hands.
He was then arrested and charged for the offence.
However, his attorney told the court that Cummings was not found with the illegal drug in his possession but rather in a container which the Police suspected belonged to him.
