A footballer attached to the Guyana Jaguars’ team and the Alpha United Football Club is now nursing a stab wound which he sustained following an argument over a firecracker in the wee hours of Sunday at North Ruimveldt.
Dellon Lanferman, 22, remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Reports are the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Stag Elite Football Tournament was standing at a gathering when another man accused him of throwing a firecracker at him.
This was refuted by the footballer. An argument quickly ensued between the footballer and the drunken man, during which he was stabbed. He was picked up and rushed to the Hospital where he was admitted.
The suspect was reportedly arrested and was expected to be charged shortly. Wayne Dover, National Coach of the Guyana team, in a Facebook post, confirmed that the young man was stabbed once and was recuperating.
Dover was convinced that the injured young man was on the road to recovery and would soon be discharged from the medical facility.
