Former Chief of Protocol Vic Persaud dies

Former Chief of Protocol at the Office of the President, Eshwar Vevakanand Persaud, fondly known as “Vic Persaud”, has died.
Persaud served nine Presidents of Guyana during his 60 years of public service in the capacity of accountant, foreign service officer and chief of protocol and advisor on protocol affairs.

President Dr Irfaan Ali in a statement on Thursday said that Persaud was a model public servant, embodying the finest attributes of professional public service.
“His wit, charm, grace, sophistication, courtesy, excellence and efficiency were the hallmarks of his exemplary service,” the President said, adding that Persaud has had the distinction of providing protocol duties to himself and former Presidents Forbes Burnham, Desmond Hoyte, Dr Cheddi Jagan, Samuel Hinds, Janet Jagan, Bharrat Jagdeo, Donald Ramotar and David Granger.
The Head of State added that Guyana has lost an outstanding public servant, and the Office of the President one of its most beloved and respected stalwarts.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, and on my own behalf and that of my family, I extend heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Carol, his children and other relatives,” the President said.
