A 25-year-old man who has been identified as Jeremy Roach, a former rank of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), was remanded to prison on Wednesday for the killing of 19-year-old Owen Young of Perseverance Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Roach appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
It was reported that on Saturday last, Roach murdered Young at Sorrell Drive, Perseverance, EBD.
The Police Force had said Young, his friend, Roach, and Roach’s brother were involved in a heated argument. It was reported that at the time, Young and his friend were walking to the shop when they were approached by the two men.
Police said that during the argument, Roach whipped out a knife and dealt Young a stab to his right-side neck, causing him to receive injuries and collapse.
Young was immediately escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival and later taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for post-mortem examination.
The following day, Roach and his brother turned themselves in to Police in the presence of a lawyer and were assisting Police with their investigations. (G9)
